Debian 8 (jessie) Install Notes

October 2015

Transitioning

from Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 LTS

to Debian 8.2 (jessie) GNOME

1. Backup Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 partition using Clonezilla. Revert back to Ubuntu if I cannot setup Debian the way I am currently using Ubuntu.

2. Install Debian 8 using netinstall iso.

3. Install NVIDIA driver.

4. Install Kodi or XBMC.

sudo nano /etc/pulse/daemon.conf and set “flat-volumes = no”

5. Install Google Chrome

wget https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb

sudo dpkg -i google*.deb

sudo apt-get -f install

6. Install Banshee

http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/b/banshee/banshee_2.6.2-3_amd64.deb

sudo dpkg -i banshee*.deb

sudo apt-get -f install

7. Install conky

sudo apt-get install conky-all

8. Install True Type Fonts – MS Core Fonts

9. Install Handbrake

10. Install gthumb

11. Removed GNOME games

12. Install mame

13. Install Openshot

14. Install youtube-dl

via Synaptic Package Manager

15. Install vlc player

16. Install Audacity
