While
on Facebook, I saw that Zorin had released Zorin OS Core 6.2.
Clicking the link to the Zorin Blog, I read that a new menu was
implemented to replace old GnoMenu which was plagued with problems in
the Windows 7 mode.
Problem
#1: Start Menu Sometimes Unresponsive
Sometimes when performing a
left-click on the start menu (the blue globe with the letter “Z”
in the lower left-hand corner of the screen), there would be no
response. The start menu would not pop-up. The only way to remedy the
problem was to right-click the start button, select Preferences,
click OK, click Yes to Restart, and click the sad smiley face to get
the menu working again. Multiple left-clicking the start button also
produced this bug, thus making the menu unresponsive.

Problem
#2: Search Not Working Properly
When performing a search, the
menu had a difficult time displaying the contents. At times, the
search would display correctly. Other times it would state 7 items
found but only displayed 6 of the items were displayed. Another
example, searching with the word system would display the search
items but then backspacing the search parameter would not display
more items or would become blank.

Problem
#3: After installing a new application, the menu would display
double entries
I
installed a new application with Ubuntu Software Center and I
immediately checked to see if the menu would work. For example, I
installed XBMC. Looking under the Sound and Video section, XBMC was
listed in the menu.
I
have been using Zorin OS 6.2 for about three days now and I have not
seen any problems with the menu while in the Windows 7 mode. Kudos to
the programmers/developers of Zorin Menu 1.0. One of the main reasons
for using Zorin OS 6 is the Windows-like menu which is why I
installed it on my computer in the first place.
I'm observing this problem in 6.2 and 7.0 in Windows 7 mode (XP and Gnome are OK). Using the trick in #1 does not help me.
ReplyDeleteAfter a recent update (in the past day or so), the problem seems to have been partially rectified. The menu now pops up on one click, but only after the first attempt; the first attempt still requires what seems to be a minimum of 3 clicks.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments. I hope Zorin OS is working for you. I have moved to using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS using Gnome Shell 3.4 which seems to suit my needs at this time. The nice thing about Linux distributions is that there are so many to choose from that you should be able to find one that you like and is easy to use on a daily basis. Sorry for the late response, I do not check my blog consistently.
